Very basic electronics

Soldering

Soldering is a process in which two or more metal items are joined together by melting and flowing a filler metal into the joint, the filler metal having a relatively low melting point. (from wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soldering)

Important:

  • Heat up properly all the parts you want to join. Larger parts take longer.
  • The solder flows toward the hottest point. Iron on one side, solder on the opposite.
  • Do not preload the iron tip with solder and try to apply it to the parts. It won't work and/or will produce an unreliable joint.
