Mobile Interaction

It is complicated if we want to make our hardware sketches portable or mobile, however, iphone just combine all the things we need and becomes a perfect sketching device.

This week we had Matt Cottam and Brian Hinch from Tellart come for tutoring us. Linda and me made this future pet which is called Totoro.

Characters

Some features of Totoro:

When you carry him in your arm, he always look at you whether you turn him facing right or left.

He is shy, he will get embarrassed when you touch his face.

He is talky, and he says different depends on how you carry him, however, he is shy, he will be quiet as soon as you start talking.

Storytelling and Sketches

When I was brainstorming with Linda, we looked at how can we make use of the functions in iphone, and make it simple that caould be finished in 2 days. Here is my sketches showing Totoro's appereance and his home.

Totoro is a fat furry creature from a faraway planet. When human beings first time landing on his planet, he slipped into their spaceship, so now he is on the Earth.

Sketching in Iphone

We used iphone as Totoro's face, and we programmed a sketch application in dashcode, by using the touch screen, speaker, microphone, accelerometer sensor, we made Totoro becomes interactive.

The touch screen is used for making the red face, the volume from microphone triggers Totoro becomes quiet, the accelerometer sensor control the movement of the eyes, and there is a timer running to make Totoro keep talking.
